I have a 1994 Fiat Uno Fire 1100 (1108cc the registration papers says). I have reason to suspect that the car’s timing is set wrongly to 10 degrees BTDC. I am suspecting it should be 3 degrees BTDC.
I am lead to this conclusion because the engine is quite lazy to return to regular idling speed when I rev it or accelerate and then take my foot of the accelerator. It takes about 3 to 4 seconds to return to normal idling speed. It accelerates well, but drops back to normal idling slowly. The idling screw is set to its max, i.e. the idling can not be set any slower either – this leads me to believe the timing might be to fast and now the idling screw is set to its lowest setting in order to compensate.
Please if there is any person out there who could confirm that the timing should be 3 degrees I would be most grateful to hear from you. I got this option from the Haynes manual I have. It gives 3 different settings which depend on the type of distributor I have. I do not know how to identify it, but from this site it might seem that the settings should be for 3 degrees.
